Traverse City, Mich.— The silhouette of a soldier over an American flag is the center of the commemorative shirt for this year’s TC Patriot Game. The shirt was unveiled today during a brief ceremony at Fox Motors. Two Central High School Students were honored for designing the shirts and given gift cards from Meijer for their efforts.

Emma Crissinger, a sophomore, was the top choice and designed the front of the shirt, she was awarded a $300 gift card. Veronica Boals, a senior, took second place and created the back design, she was given a $100 gift card. Crissinger and Boals entered a design contest at Traverse City Area Public Schools last spring. Student Senators from both schools selected the winning designs.

“It’s the first time we’ve had two student artists represented on the shirts,” says TC Patriot Game chairman Scott Herzberg. “They both do a great job of honoring the men and women who risk their lives everyday to support the freedoms we enjoy.”

Now in its eighth year, the TC Patriot Game takes the annual football clash between Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School and honors active duty military, Veterans, first responders and people from northern Michigan who recently were killed while serving their country.

Sale of commemorative shirts will help to raise money to support Veterans In Crisis. Student Senators chose the organization after interviewing a variety of Veteran groups. The organization supports Veterans in 21 northern Michigan counties that have a variety of emergency needs. “We have become a safety net for Veterans who can easily fall between the cracks of programs set up to help them,” says Veterans In Crisis director David Mikowski.

Shirts will officially go on sale next Monday. They will be available at Fox Motors, Serra of Traverse City, Williams Chevy, two 4-Front Credit Union locations, Traverse Catholic Federal Credit Union on Veterans Drive, EXIT Realty and Brady’s Bar.

Since it began, the TC Patriot Game has distributed $81,000 to Veteran organizations. Organizers hope to raise $25,000 for Veterans In Crisis at this year’s game. Direct donations can be made at
